I scoffed at a TV program about pond building when the presenter advised inserting a stick by the pond-side to attract kingfishers. Well I have to eat humble pie. Both of our last houses have had a pond with a stick(s). Each has had one or more visits from this wonderful species. The bird seems to find food very quickly and easily - insects, fish, newts ... They are very wary and photos normally have to taken from indoors but their visits are always exciting to watch.
